In
1999, Intel's software design group introduced
a series of special animated graphic effects named
Web Design Effects that were optimized to run
on the then new Pentium III processor. Through
an arrangement with Macromedia, these Web Design
Effects were incorporated into Director/Shockwave
version 7.0. To popularize the use of this new
software, Intel and Shockwave.com approached Adveractive
with the challenge of creating something truly
unique to showcase this software. The result was
Merlin's Quest, an episodic game that was
rolled out over a period of weeks on the Shockwave.com
web site. This game was, to our knowledge, the
first bandwidth friendly Shockwave game to have
the look, feel and immersion of a CD-ROM experience.
To date, the game has supplied millions upon millions
of entertainment experiences for Shockwave.com
users.
